Kings Somborne Residents Take A Step Back In Time

Local News | Kings Somborne residents take a step back in time | Romsey & VillagesResidents of Kings Somborne took a step back in time during a visit to a popular museum in Basingstoke.

Test Valley Borough Council's ward member for Kings Somborne, Councillor Tony Ward, presented the Kings Somborne Age Concern Village Agent with a £500 grant to fund a series of coach trips. Village Agents work, on behalf of Age Concern Hampshire, in rural communities across the county and are a valuable resource for residents who need help with everyday activities such as day care, assistance with transport, computer training or finding reputable tradespeople.

The group learned how Hampshire has changed through the years by wandering around the old cobbled streets that have been replicated inside the museum. The fascinating displays show how shops have changed and vehicles have evolved, and visitors can even dress up in a Victorian costume.

Councillor Tony Ward said: "Village Agent is a fantastic scheme that enables older residents to take part in trips and activities. I'm pleased to support the organisers by awarding the group with a Councillor Community Grant."

Village Agent Sue Jackson, added: "We are a small group in Kings Somborne and we rely heavily on support from the community. I am extremely grateful to Councillor Ward for the funding, which we used to pay for the cost of the coach to Milestones. We are also able to put some of the funding towards other trips throughout the year including to museums, the seaside, shopping centres and garden centres. Our members thoroughly enjoyed the day."

Test Valley Borough Council's Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives that are identified as meeting a need in the community, based on feedback from residents.
