Test Valley Borough Council’s Sparkle Day team cut hedges, cleared litter and swept roads in Wellow to give the area an extra sparkle on Monday, 21 March.
The team removed around three tonnes of rubbish, including green waste and fly-tipped material. Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Roy Perry, and Caroline Nokes MP also attended the Sparkle Day to help to promote the initiative to viewers of local television channel, That’s Solent, which came along to film the event.
The Sparkle Day also provided the team with the opportunity to distribute information about recycling to around 500 homes. The day ended with a recycling roadshow at Wellow Primary School where the team spoke to parents and children about how they could recycle more and waste less.
Environmental Portfolio Holder, Councillor Graham Stallard, said: “Once again I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work. We were delighted to welcome That’s Solent to Wellow and to talk to the film crew about the Sparkle Days which take place across the borough.”
The Sparkle Day news feature can be viewed on That’s Solent’s YouTube channel. The next Sparkle Day will take place on Friday, 22 April in the Suffolk Road area of Andover. For more information, visit www.testvalley.gov.uk/love.
