attempted horse theft in west tytherleyIn the early hours of 13/11/2015, two horses were reported to be running down North Lane, West Tytherley on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border.

The horses - a Cob gelding and mare - were later located in a nearby sheep field, having forced their way through a fence.

It was then discovered that the padlock and chain to their field had been cut off and were missing, there was a large amount of hoof skid marks by the gate. The adjacent field also had its padlock removed.

On the same night, a motorbike was also stolen from a nearby property on the same lane.

Although horse thefts are rare in Hampshire, the circumstances surrounding this incident suggest that it is possible that somebody had attempted to steal these horses and had released them or they had escaped in the process.

Please be extra vigilant with security at fields or stables, consider padlock alarms and CCTV. Make sure that your horse microchip details are up to date, that you have current pictures of your horse and that it is freeze marked.

Please also report any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles to Police.

If you have any information in relation to this incident, please call Hampshire Police on 101 quoting reference 44150394446.
