Christmas at Mottisfont

Whats On | Christmas at MottisfontInspired by textile artist Kaffe Fassett's vibrant exhibition in their gallery, Mottisfont will celebrating Christmas with colour and sparkle. Discover festive decorations in the house and grounds, both traditional and with some modern twists.

All the Colours of Christmas runs from Saturday 25 November – 2 January, 10am - 4pm (excluding 24 and 25 December).

The house will be dressed with statement trees, piles of presents, dramatic flower arrangements and handmade decorations crafted by talented volunteers.

Each room has a different colour theme. The white bedroom will be elegantly styled with shades of gold, pink and teal, featuring presents wrapped in fabric and baubles spilling out of the marble fireplace. Next door, the red room is decorated with a haberdashery theme, further complementing the textiles in the gallery.

The dining room will be full of colour, with a vibrant table display of cocktail glasses and sparkling decorations. A traditional floor-to-ceiling tree will take centre stage in the Whistler Room, where the walls will be washed with vivid lighting as a grand finale.

Outside, follow paths lit with colourful lanterns to discover decorations and festive foliage. Installations created by artists and craft volunteers will emphasise the natural winter colours found around the grounds and estate. Delicate silver chimes in the winter garden reflect the bark of silver birch trees; artist Mandy Flynn will be sculpting a flock of red robins out of wire.

The lime tree avenue will be left to go a little wild this festive season, to show off bright red shoots, and the parterre will be specially planted with brightly coloured winter bulbs.

Families can discover the grounds with an interactive activity trail, with lots to make and do along the way, including a round of ‘brussel sprout bowling’! There’ll also be a guide for adults to discover more about each installation and the artists who created them.
