Boxing Day Car Meet Revs Up Romsey

car meetThe 16th Annual Pre-1976 Car and Bike Meet attracted an impressive collection of  cars and bikes to Romsey on Boxing Day.

The free to enter event started at 9am and continued throughout the day. With collection tins placed around the event, all money raised will be donated to Prostate Cancer UK. Last year an amazing sum of £5000 was raised.

People came from across the region to drive their classic vehicles through Romsey town and then display them in the car parks.

Hundreds came to spend some time browsing the sights and sounds. With refreshments available to warm us up, it was a great way to spend the day.

The first Meet took place in 2002 and since then it has grown in popularity year on year. Signs were displayed prior to the event asking drivers to vacate the car parks in order for the event to be a success. Despite this, there were a few who stayed put and someone had even removed some of the signs which had been cable-tied to posts. However, most drivers had heeded the request and three car parks were filled with the vintage vehicles.

A spokesperson stated: 'Every single car that has vacated the car park helped us raise another £10 or so even if they didn't visit the show'.

Whilst the heavy rain throughout Christmas Day evening may have deterred some from making the trip, on the day it was bright and dry and a great way to spend a few hours on a Boxing Day. We are looking forward to the 17th.
